Without a doubt, Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the biggest releases of this year. This upcoming DnD RPG from Larian Studios has been a hit with its ambitious scope. However, it caught everyone’s attention for something much more peculiar than that. The latest Panel From Hell rollout highlights many new details planned for launch. One of them is the romance between different eccentric party members.
More specifically, the one between the game’s vampire and drug characters. This is topped by the fact that the latter can transform into a bear in the shot. The end result is that many pairs of eyes have bulged out of their sockets.
The love of Astarion/Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3 has received mixed reactions from netizens.
The live stream featured the vampire giving birth to Astarion in a romantic scene with his recruitable companion Halsing, a Druid. Anyone familiar with RPGs should know that the Druids are one with nature. As such, they can transform into animals at will. Unfortunately for Halsin, his powers temporarily spiraled out of control during his temper, turning him into a grizzly bear.
Assuming that Astarion would misunderstand, Halsin deeply apologized to the handsome undead man for the mistake. However, in typical RPG style, the player can choose the next course of action. In fact, audiences among both chat and live participants helped make this decision in Baldur’s Gate 3 through dialogue choices.
It is clear that there are consequences to the actions, which the head of the studio Swen Vincke has warned viewers. In other words, the player can choose to convince Halsin to transform for a few minutes of passionate sex. That could not help but make users express surprise at the scene.
As a result, almost equal levels of shock and fun were targeted in the scene between the two characters. Many users on the social network feel uncomfortable, claiming that this is promoting shingles – that is, sexual attraction to animals. Others consider this an overreaction.
From Larian Studios’ point of view, this is supposed to be a fun poke into the uncanny possibilities that real-life DnD role-playing sessions offer players. This ending is further accentuated by the reaction of a nearby squirrel dropping a nut in the cutscene.
As mentioned earlier, many users, including reactionaries, do not have a good opinion of the context or the developer:
On the other hand, many social media users find it funny. They argue that the outcry is unwarranted over a silly scene in Baldur’s Gate 3:
The scene is a bit too much for the TikTok tutorial, where the rollout is being streamed. This has resulted in the banning of Larian Studios’ account on the popular video platform. Regardless of how people feel about it, this highlights the extent to which Baldur’s Gate 3 fits into its role-playing choices.
