What to expect from Samsung Unpacked

Galaxy Unpacked for July 2023 looks set to be a big event. There will be new folding devices, additions to the Galaxy Watch lineup, and a new premium tablet.

The Galaxy Buds 3 are also rumored to be coming, but the latest information suggests they will be delayed until August when they could launch alongside another new phone, the Galaxy S23 FE.

Galaxy Z Fold 5

The flagship release will be the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Already revealed in numerous leaks, the device looks to be a largely iterative update with a similar high price tag to its predecessors. .

However, we can expect a big change: the redesigned hinge mechanism means the phone folds flat completely when closed. The actual image posted on Reddit and reported by Android Police shows it in action.

Besides the screen fold that we know very little about so far, this is one of the most requested features in a folding phone.

Galaxy Z Flip 5

The Flip series is the more mainstream, more affordable, and much better-selling foldable series. The Z Flip 5 will come with a major upgrade over last year’s model—a larger cover screen similar to that on the Moto Razr+.

The theory behind larger external displays is that they let you do more on your phone without having to open the phone. That leads to less distractions and possibly better battery life as well.

However, it all depends on how it is implemented and the famous Twitter leaker Evan Blass has suggested that there may not be many software features to take advantage of at launch.

Additionally, the phone is expected to feature a gapless hinge like the Fold 5, along with an improved IP rating to make the phone more durable.

Galaxy Watch 6

Next up is the Galaxy Watch 6, which looks like there will be two versions: Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic. The latter will see a return to the rotating bezel that was common in previous models, but was dropped last time.

However, the biggest changes will be on the software side. Samsung has announced that these watches will launch with the new One UI 5 Watch skin, presumably on Wear OS 3 (although Wear OS 4 is on the way). It brings a host of health features like personalized heart rate zones and improved sleep tracking.

Galaxy Tab S9

Finally, wait for a new premium tablet in the form of the Galaxy Tab S9. Android tablets have seen a renaissance in 2023, through products like the Pixel Tablet and OnePlus Pad, so Samsung needs to keep up with its new rival.

There will likely be three models — including Plus and Ultra versions — with increasingly larger screens. The devices look like incremental upgrades, with modest design tweaks and upgraded specs. But the base S9 could have an OLED display, giving it an edge over LCD-equipped iPads.

Samsung’s next launch is coming

Samsung’s summer launch event usually takes place in August, so the 2023 release happens a bit earlier than expected. Therefore, we will have to wait and see the release date of the Fold 5 or of other new devices. While you can pre-order it right away, you may have to wait a few weeks before getting your hands on the new device.
