I have seen more Tecno, Vivo, Oppo and Realme phones than Samsung and Xiaomi. Where I live, Oppo still sells Reno 5 in an online store in the Philippines. The RENO 5, a two year old phone, is still for sale HERE. Get access to the true PRO variant of this phone and get the FIT special Z model

Aoi Akane, 15 hours agoTo prolong the life, they can set at least Helio G99 to be «overrated» or «overrated» … moreNow you are talking. Here’s what I call a discussion (versus just assuming this is a bad and draining deal).
Like you told yourself, trade-offs. It all depends on what you are looking for on the phone. But let’s face it, for the casual user, this A78 delivers quite a bit. NFC, stereo speakers, AMOLED, fast charging, 256GB storage, slim and fairly light design despite 5000mAh battery. These are things that ordinary people will appreciate. They don’t care if you have a much better SoC but no NFC or only mono speakers. And remember, there are TWS rewards.
Believe me, I hate the BBK brand. But when something isn’t bad, I have to give them credit.
P
you have to suffer, 15 hours agofor 256gb storage I would rather choose infinix note 30. even though it has an LCD screen, the screen is bigger… moreGood alternative. Infinix is the new loser, making more money than even Xiaomi. But then let’s say the Infinix Note 30, it’s much bigger and heavier than this A78. And retail-wise, Oppo is still king, especially when you go to tier 3 cities. This is why Oppo (and other BBK group) are so popular in many parts of Asia despite the price their value seems «inferior».
I said build quality compared to the likes of Xiaomi or even Infinix. Believe me, Xiaomi’s failure rate is also quite high. At this price segment, Xiaomi’s materials and quality certainly feel cheap. Oppo, to their credit, has really paid attention to these things, and as you mentioned in the other post, they have used glitter and shiny things to appeal to these customer segments. The fact that this at least gives 256GB of UFS storage (presumably) means everyone will at least get a decent phone.

Kontoloyo, July 10, 2023Too bad for Indonesians stupid enough to realize it’s a scam. The average customer in Indonesia is only looking for design. that is the main selling point of oppo. in ads they don’t show what they have. it shows only storage capacity, ram expansion and «eye-catching» design.. it’s like vivo Y series.

Also, redmi note 12 pro 4g is basically redmi note 10 pro with 256gb storage and a different case. just wanted to know.
if oppo’s assembly quality is «better» then why do so many customers bring their phones to a repair shop?

potatoes4k, 20 hours agoI would argue that this really isn’t that bad. For the casual user, this is a lot… moreTo extend the life, they can order at least the «rated» Helio G99 or the «highly rated» Snapdragon 695 also favored by TSMC.
Alternative choice? Well, yes, but with some downsides:
– Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G (launched last year, heavier, runs MIUI and no 256GB memory option)
– Realme 10 (launched last year, no stereo speakers)
– iQOO Z7s (no stereo speakers, no NFC and no 256GB option)
– iQOO Z7x (IPS (although some see it as an advantage), heavier weight and no NFC)
– Infinix Note 30/30 Pro comes with IP53 (30 with IPS, heavier weight and problematic software)

Basically just an AMOLED version of Vivo Y36 4G

you have to suffer, 17 hours agoFront 50+2mp and 8mp?? for 3.5 million IDR?? expensive. redmi note 10 pro is 10 times better… moreRedmi Note 10 Pro is old and almost no longer retail (which is Oppo’s strength, especially in tier 3 cities). And for the price, this A78 has 256GB of storage, which many amateur users may find more important than other specs.
It depends on what you are looking for. For most people here, this may sound like a bad deal. But for casual consumers who head to their local retailers, this might not be a bad phone. Also, Oppo’s build quality tends to be better than Xiaomi’s. You can compare the size and weight between this A78 and Redmi note 10 Pro. In the hand, this A78 will feel much better (more eye-catching, lighter, more eye-catching). Sometimes it’s what the average consumer is looking for, not pure specs on paper.

unless if anyone wants that boxy frame with an entry-level phone camera 2018, get this one instead.

enpy, 21 hours agoAnd slooooooowwwww. My A23 is really a snail, the only downside is the battery lifeYour A23 is a snail because it uses eMMC.
If this Oppo A78 follows the A77s and uses UFS, the price will be much better.

There needs to be a law that stops these companies from using old processors and stops them from putting useless cameras on phones. If it’s not uw, tele, don’t add it
And no macros and all that nonsense
Most of the time, other cameras provide very low resolution and are not usable

I would argue that this really isn’t that bad. For the casual user, this is a very much a phone. 8GB RAM, 256GB UFS storage, stereo speakers, NFC, AMOLED display, and SD680 are at least made by TSMC, so it should have decent battery life. 5000mAh battery and quite light 180g, For the general user, it’s a lot of phone. A free TWS would certainly sweeten the deal. If Oppo adds at least IP53, it will be a great phone for many people.

Anonymous, July 10, 2023Boring as always… Another phone with SD 680. Did I say it’s «boring»?And slooooooowwwww. My A23 is really a snail, the only downside is the battery life
D.
It’s sad that this phone has so much potential. They should replace the useless 2MP depth camera with some kind of 12MP ultra-wide and give it something like a Dimensity 7050 or better. 1080p@60fps is a must these days (I would say 60fps in at least some resolutions should always be the norm) and 680 is a joke at this point. Also, give it 5G, which is basically a standard feature these days, even used by Samsung on their £200 phone, the A14. If they can do all these things, then this will be a very good product. Even better if the selfie camera is a 12 MP module.
