Indian athletes need to pay attention
Tajinder Pal Singh Toor
Keep an eye out for Indian pitcher Tajinder Pal Singh Toor, an absolute force to be reckoned with! With a glorious gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games, Toor is undoubtedly one of the leading contenders for the podium position at the upcoming continental games. In the League Cup in Ranchi earlier this year, he broke records set at the Asian Athletics Championships and the Asian Games.
Toor continues to reach new heights as he recently surpassed his own Asian and national records with an incredible 21.77m throw at the National Interstate Championships.
Jyothi Yarraji
Jyothi Yarraji, the record-breaking star in the women’s 100m hurdles, is undoubtedly a top contender for a medal in the upcoming competition. Although only 23 years old, she has left an indelible mark in the world of athletics. Yarraji’s stellar season has been adorned with numerous medals won for his outstanding performance in international competitions.
Her recent achievement was the federal championship, where she won the gold medal and secured her spot in the Asian Athletics Championships with an impressive time of 12.89 seconds at the 2023 Confederations Cup.
Murali Sreeshankar
Prepare to witness the extraordinary talent of Murali Sreeshankar and Jeswin Aldrin as they represent India in the fiercely competitive men’s long jump. Sreeshankar, who recently stunned the athletics world with his extraordinary personal longest jump of 8.41m at the National Interstate Championships, is set to rise to new heights in the international arena.
Indian athletes will miss the event
In a significant setback for the country, several prominent Indian athletes have pulled out of the upcoming 2023 Asian Athletics Championships.
Among them are Praveen Chithravel, a triple jumper who has recorded an impressive three jumps over 17 meters this year, and Rohit Yadav, a javelin thrower who has achieved a remarkable distance of over 81 meters in three separate times this season. Their absence from championships leaves a significant void in the Indian team.
Jeswin Aldrin, who set a remarkable National record of 8.42m in the Indian Open diving competition in Bellary in March, made the difficult decision to withdraw from the event. Citing his continued recovery from weakness caused by the previous Covid wave, Aldrin prioritized his health and well-being.
Athletics Muhammed Anas and Anjali Devi will not be able to compete at the Asian Athletics Championships. Due to unforeseen circumstances, their entries arrived late to the organizers, resulting in their disqualification from the event.
Two notable athletes who unfortunately missed out on the Asian Athletics Championships are Neeraj Chopra and Avinash Sable. Currently, both athletes are focusing on training to prepare for the World Athletics Championships to take place in August.
